Description: Following the destruction caused by cyclones that ravaged regions in the south of India towards the end of 1977, this documentary focusses on the second phase of the international rescue operation co-ordinated by the League of Red Cross Societies [former name of the IFRC] in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry. The Indian Red Cross organized 170 camps for more than a million people who were made homeless. Distribution of blankets, milk powder, rice, medicine, and cooking instruments. The relief operation then concentrated on the reconstruction of more solid houses. Communal shelters could be used as educational and medical centres when not needed in emergencies.

In response to an appeal from the League of Red Cross Societies, thousands of tons of food was shipped to Liberia and then on to Upper Volta (Burkina Faso) by plane. The League obtained protein-enriched flour from a company in Liberia. At Goroum-Goroum, 300 kilometres north of Ouagadougou, the Upper Volta Red Cross unloaded the relief supplies from the plane and distributed them to Touareg nomads.
