Johannes Møllehave tells of a period when many children grew up in miserable conditions. In the shadow of unemployment, children have to help make everyday life come together. Clothes distribution, school meals and holiday camps become bright spots for many vulnerable children. Out in Europe, boots are being trampled and here children experience that they have to leave their country for reasons they do not understand. In the broadcast, "witnesses" take part, who tell what the film apparatus did not catch.
